A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MILLICENT "GRANNY" BLANKENSHIP ON BEING HONORED AS A MISSISSIPPI AGELESS HERO IN THE VITALITY CATEGORY.
WHEREAS, Millicent "Granny" Blankenship, a resident of Kosciusko, Mississippi, was honored on January 26, 1999, as Mississippi's Ageless Hero in the Vitality category; and
WHEREAS, Mississippi Ageless Heroes, a program established in 1997 by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, are people whose accomplishments at age 65 and beyond are inspirational for others; and
WHEREAS, since 1991, Ms. Blankenship, 81 years of age, has earned two degrees from Magnolia Bible College, and she was recognized as the college's 1997 Student of the Year; and
WHEREAS, despite aches and pains of post-polio syndrome, Ms. Blankenship devotes her time to the community, visiting jail inmates and nursing home residents, volunteering at the Kosciusko Welcome Center, preparing meals for the elderly and sitting for a family with two handicapped children; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Blankenship who advises young people who might want to follow in her footsteps not to be afraid of aging, states, "I don't even think about my age. I just try and stay busy."; and WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and pay special tribute to such outstanding Mississippians as Ms. Millicent "Granny" Blankenship, whose untiring efforts have affected the lives of so many in her community:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Millicent "Granny" Blankenship on being honored as a Mississippi Ageless Hero in the Vitality category on January 26, 1999, and express our heartiest wishes for many years of good health, happiness, peace and joy.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Millicent "Granny" Blankenship and the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
